These catalogs were designed and printed expressly for Tefaf art exhibitions held annually in The Netherlands. They feature full-color images of many of the Grassi Studio’s offerings. The text was set in Garamond Oldsytle and screened to appear gray. This helped soften the text-heavy pages against the full color photos on the opposite pages. The text digitally printed on the Indigo press; the cover is engraved and then burnished with the studio’s logomark.

In 2011 CJPW expanded its product offerings to the hotel and lodging industry with the acquisition of a retiring print company. We currently provide distinctive collaterals, as well as design to this growing sector.
To promote these unique products and introduce ourselves into this market, we designed and produced this booklet. It displays photos of the most popular products, tailored especially to hotels and lodging facilities everywhere. Prepress included set-up studio photography, photo-retouching and silhouetting.

This is an outstanding example of what is possible with digital. The quantity for this Lookbook was just 300 pieces so digital printing was chosen. The client wanted the highest possible reproduction to capture the textures of her fine quality women's blouses and skirts -- most of which are manufactured from cotton mesh and silk organza fabrics. To add substance and flair to the book, each page was printed as a double-folded signature, the gathered and spiral bound.

Digitally printed four color process plus register emboss (logo) on 100 lb Mohawk Superfine Ultrawhite Smooth Cover, die scored, folded, gathered and spiral bound with clear plastic.
Another excellent example of the reliability of digital printing. This booklet's cover was designed using a PMS purple and a PMS yellow, coupled with very thoughtful application of tints and reverse type. The digital press converts all colors to CMYK and thus the challenge to presrve the original PMS specified color. The Indigo performed brilliantly with rich, vibrant color reproduction.

To guarantee excellent print quality it's critical to start with high-quality color separations when working with scannable media. This artist's evocative work was done in the traditional manner, color separating from 4x5 chromes taken from the actual paintings and then converted to match the artist's original.

Lynn Bump of Art-Pro Design assembled this project consisting of a series of postcards and a carrier to hold them. We configured the press form with ten lots of cards as well as the die-cut holder, which was designed with simple loose flaps. CJPW provided the collating and assembly of the pieces after printing and finishing.

An exceptional amount of planning went into the pre-press and printing of this multi-piece case and book. The design employed the use of "mixed colors" in the InDesign palette with ten different variations of percentage builds using the two PMS inks. To assure uniformity of color, pages with similar tints were positioned on the same form. A color gradient bar was also printed on the cover form as a guide to measure ink densities throughout the run.

When this book came in, it was specified as a saddle-stitch booklet. Saddle-stitch books normally max out at about this many pages, tending not to lay flat but pop open. Numbering over 64 pages, we suggested perfect binding, making it neater and more presentable. The increased cost was not considerable.

This binder merits discussion because of the interesting interplay of pastel silk screen inks and translucent vinyl. The printing required screening in two match inks, tinted to reproduce as light "ghosted" images to preserve the delicate subject matter. The tint values were carefully adjusted over a series of full-sheet press proofs submitted to the client prior to the production run.

At the risk of sounding old-fashioned, we do have to say that this six-book set is neat. We believe Postmodern's idea for these well-written of-the-moment subjects is excellent and are excited about future prospects for the company. The covers were printed in combination as one pass on a six-color press and eventually "married" to each individual text and perfect bound.
